A Twist on Traditional Snacks for Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year is just around the corner, and there’s so much to look forward to – the festivities, quality time with loved ones, and of course, indulging in the array of snacks at every relative’s house.
Whether you are hosting a gathering at your house or looking for some sweet treats to bring when you are visiting, you’ll be spoilt for choice at Melvados!
Two of Melvados’ Chinese New Year special items that can be enjoyed by everyone – the Salted Egg with Sesame Cookies and Yuzu with Cashew Nuts Cookies.
This halal-certified homegrown brand has been around since 2004, quietly filling the hearts, and stomachs of Singaporeans with its host of delicious desserts, gourmet breads and ready-to-eat meals. Many of us would have tried their scrumptious brownies, cheesecakes, lava cakes, ice creams, and sorbets, which are commonly served at selected restaurants, five-star hotels, and even airlines. This is because Melvados is the retail arm for Foodedge Gourmet, a premier food manufacturing company. Though Melvados first began as a single outlet in Woodlands Terrace, they have since expanded into five outlets island-wide – two of which are at Anchorpoint and Eastpoint Mall!
We sat with the team from Melvados to find out what they have in store for customers this coming Chinese New Year.
What kind of snacks can we look forward to?
Melvados has always offered western-style pastries and desserts, such as lasagnes, American beef pies, quiches, and our ever-popular lava cakes and brownies. For Chinese New Year, we will continue to stay true to offering comfort western food with an Asian twist.

Tea-based flavours were popular in the early months of 2019, and our earl grey and teh tarik (milk tea) cookies were a hit with our customers during that Chinese New Year period. For 2020, we were inspired to incorporate other popular flavours from 2019 such as salted egg, and mala.
Salted egg yolk remains to be one of the hottest food trends in Singapore, and we are very excited to share our Salted Egg with Sesame Cookies with our customers. These savoury cookies are made with our unique salted egg recipe and garnished with sesame seeds for an added crunch.

Fans of all things mala will be excited to know that we are launching a time-limited mala bread stick for Chinese New Year. This is in addition to our cinnamon, garlic bread and honey butter bread sticks which are popular favourites all year round.
Your ice cream products are very popular too, are there any new flavours for Chinese New Year?
Melvados’ Mango sorbet (left) is made with real Alphonso mangoes which is favoured for its sweetness and richness of flavour. The soursop sorbet (right) offers a refreshing and tangy experience for fans of this tropical fruit.
We don’t have any new flavours for the occasion, but some fruits such as oranges, pineapples and mangoes are more popular than others to ring in Chinese New Year. Our mango and soursop sorbet which are available all year round is fit for this joyous occasion too!
What do you think will be the most popular item from your Chinese New Year range this year?
The D24 Durian Mousse Cake is available in boxes of 4 or 10 pieces.
Our durian-based products are always a standout with our customers, and we think it will continue to do well during this festive period. Singaporeans really have an insatiable love for durians and we’ve made sure to cater to their needs.
Our D24 Durian Ice Cream is one of our most popular ice-cream flavours of the decade, and our D24 Durian Mousse Cake is made with generous durian filling topped with soft fresh cream for a melt-in-your mouth experience. These are also some of the must-try items we recommend to our new customers!
Is there a sampling pack for us to try all these goodies?
Other popular flavours in the original sized Festive sampler include Carrot Cake, Vegetarian Brownie, Peach Cheesecake and Tiramisu.
Yes, of course! Our festive samplers are back by popular demand this year. The mini festive sampler consists of 8 bite-sized pieces of our most popular cakes such as Mango Mousse Cake, Speculoos Cheesecake and Ondeh Ondeh Cake, while the original sized sampler contains 20 bite-sized pieces.
When will these Chinese New Year items be available?
Our Chinese New Year Specials – Salted Egg with Sesame Cookies, Yuzu with Cashew Nuts Cookies, Salted Egg Bread Sticks and Mala Bread Sticks will all be available from 6 January onwards.
Other popular items mentioned earlier such as our sorbets and mousse cakes which are available all year round, are already stocked in stores.
