3 looks to wear to Singapore Fashion Week, without breaking the bank or breaking a sweat.

5 days. 30+ local and international designers. 1 epic event.

The Singapore Fashion Week (SGFW) 2016 is the single most important fashion event in the little red dot, and arguably, Asia. This highly anticipated, week-long show is the biggest and grandest showcase of incredible talent and brilliant minds in the industry.

What makes SGFW distinctly special is its amalgamation of new generation designers and world-renowned names. It gives equal, if not, greater importance to local talents. No other fashion week in the world does this.

Showcasing local collections to a global audience, one can expect a spectacular show where fashion industry stars, whether designer or model, are born.

Just how exactly do you dress appropriately for the event? How do you look hot yet stay cool in Singapore’s heat?

If you are attending Singapore Fashion Week, we recommend these 3 looks.

LOOK 1 – SLEEK STREET

Singapore Fashion Week

There is a reason why Paris is one of the world’s fashion capitals. The French are masters of combining casual street-cool with a little magical couture flair. For SGFW, we are leaning towards a vibe that says "I'm a model on a day off". Not only because of the humidity, but also because this effortless, anti-cliché look is nothing short of badass. In a sea of gowns and over the top dressing, wearing this will surely make you standout.

We took the key pieces from Esprit’s new collection to create this look.

Striped Cotton T-Shirt, $39.95 – Stripes are synonymous to French fashion. Building your look on a striped t-shirt is a good start. This cotton tee from Esprit is cut to perfection.

Plaid Shirt, $69.95 – Inspired by the distinct collections of famous French designer Isabel Marant, this plaid shirt is an amazing piece to layer on. The fusion of French colours – blue, white, and red – are brilliantly translated into contemporary checks. To keep the shirt interesting, tie a front knot.

Leather Jacket $349.95 – Soft, buttery leather jacket. This, among their other great pieces, is what you can expect from Esprit’s latest collection. It may look hard-wearing, but it is designed to suit the soft female curves. We are obsessed with the fact that it is collarless and that the cuts and zippers are sexy.

Ripped Jeans, $89.95 – To keep the look bad-assy (think supermodel Cara Delevingne), wear black ripped jeans, the kind of jeans that are torn in the knees. It pulls the look together.

Complete the look with a pair of boots either in black leather or brown suede material. Carry an ample-sized clutch that can fit your camera, notes, shades, and smartphone.

LOOK 2 – GEEK CHIC

Singapore Fashion Week

If comfy and pretty is the style that you want, you can opt for the geek chic look. This classic style is great anytime, anywhere. And Uniqlo’s F/W16-17 collection has got what you need. Their latest collection boasts of modern mod pieces that are made with the finest materials. By finest, we mean lightweight fabrics that are great to combat the heat.

Brown Suede Dress, $59.90 – This dress is a nod to the signature 1960s style. We love how Uniqlo updated it with suede, a key material in designer collections. To give a sexy shape to the dress, wear a slim brown belt.

White Shirt, $39.90 – A must-have piece in every girl’s closet! This white shirt from Uniqlo is made to breathe; great thread count and fabric that is not too transparent when worn and doesn’t shrink when washed. Stock up on this, ladies!

Complete the look with a pair of Mary Jane and lace socks. Ditch the flats. Or if you want to break the simplicity, wear knee high boots.

Singapore Fashion Week

Jumpsuits are versatile fashion pieces. It’s a timeless outfit that you can wear practically from boardroom to boardwalk, depending on the styling. How to pull it off? Wear a structured blazer for your daytime meetings then throw on a denim jacket at nighttime – a stunning ‘not so dressed down’ look for cocktails and late night catch-ups.

This royal blue jumpsuit from Uniqlo evokes understated elegance. From its figure-flattering silhouette to the soft fabric choice, it’s a statement piece that moves beautifully with you.

If you’re feeling conservative, then try layering – it’s the in thing right now! Wear this charming maroon blouse under the jumpsuit. It’s airy so you don’t have to worry about excessive sweating. What’s good about Uniqlo is that their fabrics are ultra sensitive to extreme temperatures.

Complete the look with a denim jacket. Trust us, the air-conditioning in the venue can be quite unpredictable, so bringing a timeless jacket is a safe bet. You can wear it or simply put it on your shoulders for that nonchalant fashion look. You may fold or roll the sleeves too.

How to choose the right denim? Go for a dark blue shade. Ensure that it is neither faded nor distressed. The simpler and more classic it looks, the better.

Then put on a pair of oh-so-sexy ankle strap heels.

And oh, get ready to be snapped by street style photographers!
